One way to secure the collection of user data via forms against fraud is to use the new "E-Mail Verification" feature. If this option is active, a 6-digit code is sent by email to the email address provided by the user. The user must then enter this code into the form to confirm that he/she is the owner of the email address provided. The user will not be able to use the same email address again after the confirmation has been successfully completed.

How to Activate the E-Mail Verification?

In the account settings there is a new menu item "Mail Server". This must be configured once. If the menu item is not visible, please contact our team, possibly this function is not included in the current plan.

  1. Host: Address of the mail server, e.g. smtp.mailgun.org

  2. Username: E-Mail address or username of the mail server, e.g. john@doe.com

  3. Password: Self-evident, please pay attention to upper and lower case letters

  4. Port: Depending on the encryption (see next point), a corresponding port is required, f.e. 587 for TLS

  5. Encryption: Mail servers can communicate with different encryption, you can choose between the most common methods for sending emails, TLS and SSL.

Now create a form or select an existing one, add a field of type "E-Mail" and check the option "E-Mail Verification":

  1. Subject: The subject of the email can be entered here, e.g. "Verification Required".

  2. Text: Here you can enter the text that should be in the email. Please note that the placeholder :code must be included.

  3. Sender Name: The displayed name of the sender can be entered here, e.g. "John Doe".

  4. Sender E-Mail: The displayed email address can be entered here, e.g. john@doe.com. This address should be the same as the address stored in the mail server. Otherwise there is a risk that the email will end up in spam.

That's it, the voting with the form has now been additionally secured.

We plan to enable this protection in the future also without form for votings.
